The history of Abiomed began in 1997 with the invention of the first Impella® heart pump in Aachen. The company has been part of the J&J Group since 2022. Since its invention, more than 300,000 patients worldwide have been treated with the Impella® heart pump. More than 800 employees work at the EMEA headquarters in Aachen in the areas of research & development, production, logistics, sales and administration. The company is investing more than EUR 100 million in the expansion and modernization of the Aachen site by 2027.
